Chamaedorea elegans, or the Parlour palm, has been one of the most popular indoor palms for the last two hundred years.
Used frequently in the Victorian Era for parlour plants, hence the name, this little palm was seen as a sign of luxury and wealth.
It is hardy and robust, requiring indirect light and watering only when top inch of soil is dry.
They prefer temperatures between 20C to 27C for fast growth, but as long as it's above 10C, they will tolerate the cold.
Originally native to Southern Mexico and Guatemala.
